What Comes In The CS Puerh Tea Sample Box
I loved the aesthetic and contents of this sample box. First, you can tell how much effort went into the box’s design because it’s beautiful. When opening, you are greeted by a lovely tote bag; you can’t have enough! Underneath the tote bag, it gets better! You have five tea samples.
- Two (2) Cheng Sheng Jiang Xin Raw Puerh Tea samples
- One (1) Random black tea sample in a red bag
- One (1) Random raw puerh tea sample in a green bag

Finally, you receive explanation cards in English and Chinese. I loved this touch! I want to learn about the teas I am drinking and the company. These do a great job at that! The visuals are lovely. All in all, for the price of the box, you certainly get your money’s worth.
More About This Tea Style
Puerh tea is one of China’s most famous. You can only consider a tea “Puerh” if it is picked and processed in China’s Yunnan province. The Chinese government regulates this to protect its sacred nature. Yunnan is where some of the first tea trees were known to be; in other words, the OG of tea! This tea style goes through unique processing and can be sold for very high prices depending on the age.
There are two types of Puerh tea, Sheng (raw) and Shou (cooked). Sheng Puerh is naturally aged over time. That aging process can be years. Shou Puerh uses a fermentation process called Wo Dui, also known as pile fermenting. This process can go on for upwards of 45 days, where in the end, the tea is dried again and finally pressed into cakes or sold loose.
Puerh tea can be sold loose be pressed into cakes during their processing. Pressing tea into cakes has a history in China, dating back thousands of years. You can read more about Cheng Sheng Puerh’s process on their website.
What Do You Need For Brewing
The good news is, not much! When brewing puerh tea, I use my gaiwan, which you can read more about here. If you purchase caked puerh tea, you will want a puerh tea knife. They are inexpensive, and trust me; they make a huge difference! Until I had my tea knife, I would have a mess when breaking up tea cakes.
When brewing Puerh, I suggest following Chen Sheng’s instructions; they are experts. I usually use boiling water, around 205-210 degrees, and 2 grams of tea. However, I tried the method on Chen Shen’s website, and it makes a difference. Start there!
